NEFU/UoA-CHEM 110-Chemistry of the Living World-2020 Autumn
Course category2020 Autumn
CHEM110 - Chemistry of the Living World is the foundation for understanding the chemistry of life. In this course, you will develop the skills required to communicate chemical concepts and relate these to biological systems. You will explore the diversity of organic compounds - how they can be manipulated and how they can be identified. A systematic study of reactivity will focus on the site and mechanism of reaction and you will see how mechanism can be informed by the study of chemical kinetics. A quantitative study of proton transfer reactions will allow you to see the importance of organic molecules in the control of pH in both living systems and the broader environment.
This course comprises five lecture blocks / topics.
