Advanced Quantity Surveying

It is believed that the ancient Egyptians used a system of quantity surveying but it was not until the 17th century restoration of London after the Great Fire that Quantity Surveying developed as an occupation (AIQS).

"The Quantity Surveyor, also known as a Construction Economist, or Cost Manager, is one of a team of professional advisers to the construction industry. As advisers they estimate and monitor construction costs, from the feasibility stage of a project through to the completion of the construction period. After construction they may be involved with tax depreciation schedules, replacement cost estimation for insurance purposes and, if necessary, mediation and arbitration." (AIQS website aiqs.com.au)

Hi, I am Dr. Rameez Rameezdeen, the coordinator of this final year Quantity Surveying course. The aim of this course is to provide students with advanced technical knowledge and skills of modern quantity surveying practices and cost management services on complex construction projects. On the other hand, contemporary building procurement methods and services offered during operational stage of a building will also be discussed in detail.
