The course provides an introductory overview of computer science intended for new computer science students.  A breadth of foundational topics are explored with enough depth to provide sufficient insight into and appreciation of the topics included.  Topics covered include foundation concepts and brief history of Computer Science, the fundamentals of information encoding, data storage, computer architecture, operating systems and computer networks.  A small taster of Artificial Intelligence will also be provided at the end.

 

This course has 12 sessions of about 2 hours each (110 mins) and will run in intensive mode online over 2 weeks.  Students are expected to listen to lectures, complete exercises to help understanding.  Students will be assessed on group project work as well as through individual assessments.
